Honours Workshop

Interested in finding out more about photographic achievement honours, or how to best approach entering international photography competitions?

This is the Zoom recording of the online Honours Workshop held on 19th August 2021. It runs for 2:08 hours, so it is recommended that you watch it in shorter bites. The workshop assumes the viewer is familiar with the Preliminary & Reading Material covered further below. Many thanks to Adrian & Monique Whear for their valuable insights throughout the workshop

Preliminary Work & Reading Material

Please complete as many of these these tasks as you can before watching the above video of the workshop. Some of the Steps repeat information presented in earlier steps but this is necessary to help consolidate your learning. Click here to take a look at the huge range of International Exhibitions that you could enter before the end of 2021.

STEP 1: Click here to read a pleasant little anecdote from Alfred Zommers. Alfred is the Chair of the Honours Sub Committee (HSC) of the APS, the committee that oversees all APS Honours.

STEP 2: Acronyms & Jargon
Like all things related to photography, the photographic community works hard to exclude all outsiders who might be better photographers than themselves. An effective way to do this is through liberal use of specialist jargon. Photographic clubs are like Illuminatti secret societies. The translation guide below will help the unwary traveller.

STEP 9: FIAP Distinctions

Watch this British Chorley Club presentation about FIAP & PSA Exhibitions. Also covers a great online Compettion Image Manager software that is available for free use.

STEP 10: Record Keeping
It is recommended you download the Tracking Exhibition Entries spreadsheet using the button at the top of this page.

Click here to see Alfred Zommers complex spreadsheet that he used to get through to GMAPS level.

Click here to take a look at and register with the Competition Image Manager Software. Try it out. It Looks good.

It is recommended that you try the online system AND keep a spreadsheet record yourself. Below is an example of a simpler spreadsheet than Alfred’s that can get you started. Eventually you’ll need something like Alfred’s. It’s never a good idea to be too dependent for all your record keeping on an external application like CIM.
